Sania Mirza Rules Over The World Of Tennis With Her Racket Since The Age Of 12

Sania Mirza began dabbling with her tennis racquet at the age of six when she began playing tennis at the Nizam Club, Hyderabad. Because of the expenses involved in the professional game of tennis, sponsors like Adidas and GVK Industries had to sponsor the games Sania played at the age of 12.

Sania Mirza entered the professional world of tennis in 2003 when she joined the  India Fed Cup team, and came out victorious in all the matches. The years to come saw a series of wins and losses. She got the prestigious  Arjuna Award in 2004 from the government of India for her excellent performance in sports, while she also claimed the Padma Shri in 2006 for the same reason.

She was awarded with a Doctor of Letters by the MGR Educational and Research Institute University, Chennai in 2008. She went on to claim the Grand Slam title at the Australian Open teaming up with Mahesh Bhupathi. This made her the very first and only woman in Indian history to claim a grand slam title.

Her prowess with the tennis racket earned her the first rank by the Women's Tennis Association in singles game as well as in doubles game from 2003 till the time she retired from playing singles in 2013. She has gone on to establish her might as one of the best and the highest paid athlete in India. She outstrips everyone when it comes to popularity in the tennis court in Asia.

An injury in her wrist forced her to give up her singles career and take up a stand in the doubles field. She stands at the top spot in the world as of now when it comes to doubles tennis.
